Two features for the retail supplement published to co-ordinate with the annual meeting of the British Council of Shopping Centres. The first will look at the impact - in all senses - of the shopping centres opened since 2007. The second will examine the UK's growing perfum sector - specialist stores, and male scents in particular.

Estates Gazette - Essex feature - 21 July 2012
Essex, ah Essex, there is poetry in thy name. And a good deal of retail, too, which is what this feature will be about. Think Essex shopping centres and big plans.
Comment/contacts from commercial property contacts, retailers, local councils, interest parties of all kinds, most welcome by 25th June, please.
This fantastic figure on the right is Captain Basildon. According to the local council he is the super-hero leading the regeneration of the town centre. Honestly, I kid you not.
UPDATE 26 June 2012: Can hardly believe it, feel quite tingly all over, but I've actually emailed Captain Basildon. Yes! I know! Fabulous or what! He's now a retired regeneration super-hero and has been since 2005. He's hung up his lycra. The Cool Blue Hero is back in a suit. Can this be right? No no no, the nation cries. The campaign begins here....
